Says Boko Haram is a symptom of wider disease

The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Fr. John Onaiyekan a couple of hours ago told politicians in the country to avoid "bastard democracy."
The clergy said it was imperative for politicians to adhere to the rules guiding democratic governance.

He emphasized that the country should have a viable democracy where everyone would see hope of a better nation and livelihood.
Onaiyekan who spoke during the visit of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Odegun identified need for politicians to avoid violence in gaining political power.
According to him, “if violence erupts, it is the masses that would suffer most. Though democracy may not be the best way of ruling but it is considered one of the best. So rule of law must be strictly adhered to.”
He expressed hope that political office holders and aspiring politicians would have the mindset to do the right thing.
The clergy further commended the media for their commitment to developing the nation’s democracy.
Meanwhile, Onaiyekan described the scourge of Boko Haram attack as a symptom of a wider disease which should be prepared for.
He urged every stakeholder to partner the Federal Government to address the situation.
“Boko Haram is a symptom of a wider disease. If we don’t tackle it, we may face something worse.
“Politics is too important to be left to politicians alone because we are all involved in it. Though my church forbids it,” he added.
