Disqualify Ex-Minister: Rivers 16 governorship aspirants tell PDP

Wike

About 16 aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants from Rivers State, yesterday called on the national leadership of the Party to disqualify the former Minister of State for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike in the 2015 governorship election.
The aspirants accused Wike, who is also a PDP governorship aspirant of compromising and corrupting the entire process of the last ward congress in the state.

Allegations of irregularity reportedly marred the congress in most wards.
They spoke during a briefing in Abuja, adding that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) should cancel the flawed Rivers ward delegate elections. Otherwise, they will seek court action if prompt measure is not taken.
The aspirants are Major. Lancelot Ayanya (rtd), Engr. Beks Dagogo-Jack, Hon. Bernard Mikko, Prof. Don Baridam, Chief Barrister Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Hon Gabriel Pidomson and Abieatedoghu Bob-Abbey.
Others are Senator Lee Maeba, Barrister Nimi Walson-Jack, Capt. Nwankwo Sunday, Hon Oseleye Dennis Ojuka, Chief, Paweriso Samuel, Engr. Sampson Ngerebara, Dr. Silva Opusunju, Hon. Tamunososisi Gogo Jaja and Prince Tonye Princewill.
Leader of the Rivers Mainstream Coalition, Prof. Israel Owate, who spoke on behalf of the 16 aspirants stated that the Rivers Ward Congress Electoral Committee, chaired by Dr. Yakubu Gambo should also be disbanded.
Owate said: "We call on the NWC of the PDP to cancel the flawed Rivers state ward delegate elections. That barr. Nyesom Wike should be disqualified as a governorship aspirant for compromising and corrupting the processes leading to the ward delegate elections and bringing the PDP to disrepute in Rivers State and the nation.
"We call on the NWC of the PDP to invoke its constitutional powers as provided in part viii section 5, sub section 5 (2)(e) of the PDP constitution as amended to dissolve the docile and incompetent two-man Rivers state working committee and appoint a care-taker committee to run the party until another executive committee is elected."
Owate alleged that Gambo, who is also current Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Executive  Secretary, Dr. Olu Ayewoh (committee member), Mr. Chuks Awiti (Committee Secretary), Mrs. Uzo Nwanda among others are cronies of Wike.
However, they asked the NWC to order fresh registration of PDP members in the state in order to produce authentic party membership registers for the Rivers PDP.
The aspirants justified their claim while emphasizing that President Goodluck Jonathan, on November 1st, 2014 had to revalidate his registration as a member before voting during his ward congress.
"We are shocked that the NWC could set up a ward congress electoral committee for Rivers state composed solely of persons who worked under Barrister Nyesom Wike and received his patronage at the Federal Ministry of Education. It is obvious that Barrister Wike constituted this panel in his own interest for the NWC. We stand to be corrected.
"As leaders of Rivers State PDP, We had raised the issue of the legitimacy of the State, council and ward party executives including the absence of party registers among other issues to the national leadership of our party and recently to the South-South Integration Committee constituted by the NWC," they added.
On zoning, the aspirants asked that elective offices in the state should be zoned as being done in Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Adamawa and Enugu state.
